For most of the Nineteenth Century, India was ruled by the British. India was considered the jewel in the crown of the British Empire. Queen Victoria had been made Empress of India and the British had a major military presence in India.
In 1885, educated middle class nationals had founded the Indian National Conference (INC). Their aim was to get a much greater say in the way India was governed.
I browsed today a few website on freedom struggle of India and it came to me as a surprise- educated middle class nationals joined the freedom movement along with great leaders Gandhiji and Nehru. I was wondering all these years which class of India has got freedom for us. Was it the elite, the middle or the lower sections of society? I feel it is not a case of class difference and I never thought I belong to a any particular class apart from a feeling that I am a human being. I see a lot of things happening around me and it is interesting what these exclusive classes in pages teach about our free India. It is a world of youngsters of 30 and 35 and the rest of the world should go in silence or they will be sliced like old trees in pavements. I will be adventurous to say here that old writers like Chetan Bhagat should go and young writers like Shobha De should stay back to kick the pages of free India. We as a society are not free of our inhibitions even after years of independence. There is no peace forming entity in this world as the world is divided and UN is just a puppet in the hands of America. Opinions are formed not on who fought for freedom but who ruled after independence, who achieved ahead of monuments and who can sit on the warmth of a palatial palace. We are free from British but we are not free from our own monsters that as a birth right chain our own nation and divide its inmates.
Educated middle class nationals founded the Indian National Conference for freedom struggle. Elite joined INC later to become ministers and not to take part in any kind of struggle. Middle and Lower are there for to struggle and fight and die.... Incredible India... We remain like this for ever until we find one more Gandhi..
