PARIJATHAM



Parijatham is a highly fragrant white flower with around six petals arranged above a deep orange tube


These flowers open at dusk spreading their fragrance &fall down when the dawn breaks. Botanical name of Parijatham is Nycatanthes Arbortristis - Nycatanthes means "night flowering" & arbortristis means "sad".It is also called Night Jasmine/ Coral Jasmine in English, Parijat in Sanskrit,Parijatham in Malayalam, Pavizhamalli in Tamil, Harsinghar in Hindi & Shefali in Bengali.
MYTHOLOGY
Origin of Parijatha

Parijatham is a sacred tree is very important in Hindu mythology. During churning of the cosmic ocean to obtain nectar, before the appearance of nectar many other things appeared. Among them Parijatha plant was one. This plant wasgiven to Indra and he planted in his Nandavanam. This garden is in"Swargaloka" -
